Protection & tools for cleaning up Adware, Spyware & Malware

Ad-Aware - Basic version is free and easy to use. You get more features and can schedule scans if you purchase the product.
CounterSpy - Remove spyware and try for free. Have not used but is recommended by editors and is a SunBelt product.
Spybot S & D - Free but newbies may not find it very easy. Download.com offers it for free. But you can check it out in detail here.
Spyware Doctor - Good program but can use a bit of memory to run. Rates very high and one of the best for cleaning up adware and spyware. I use it on my machines and recommend it to you as well.
Webroot Software's Spy Sweeper - Very good program and rated high among editors and users. The Geek Squad uses this particular software. You can also get antivirus protection with spyware sweeper.
Microsoft Malicious Spyware Remover - Free for Windows users.

All though these are great tools you can still get into trouble and may not be able to resolve by yourself, for some things just have to be manually removed or cleaned up. Also remember, the cause comes before the affect and these programs are only as good as you keep them up through updates & subscription services.
